Redundant waste baskets find a new use
Hi Alice, Just to let you know that I collected 25 grey wastepaper bins from Dept of Health Dunedin yesterday. Not surprised they were told to get rid of them, as they've obviously mostly been used for food refuse, and the size they are they must have stunk the offices out in between emptyings. They will make good dressage markers, though. - Irene. [more]

Permaculture lifestyle block wins big
Hi Alice Yes, we did a two day trip last week and picked up a trailerload of 13mm and 16mm irrigation alcathene as well as several bundles (can’t tell you how long it is) of 1.8m wide frost cloth. We will keep some of it, but most will be distributed to various addresses in Taranaki; an organic Market gardener (irrigation), a rarebreeds farm in backcountry (cloth), a permaculture lifestyleblock (irrigation and cloth) and a couple of housegardens Thanks Christine [more]

Waste drums prove invaluable
Hi Alice, This time a pony club Mum took a horse trailer, and fitted in 14 100-litre drums. At present, we have pretty well cleaned them out, they told her no more till after Christmas. Mind you, I don't know how many other people are getting the drums as well. My sister cut one of the 100-litre drums longways today and her ponies now have a new water trough. The other 1/3 of it will get turned into a goat feeder. Planning to turn another 100-litre into a roofed salt block holder. [more]

Pony club makes good use of 'waste' drums
Hi Alice, The first time we stuffed 6 drums in my sister's car along with the dog and goat food and groceries. Next time, I put 10 drums in my Honda Shuttle and still had some space, so last Monday, I got 12 in. So that's 28 altogether. We do have to phone ALSCO-NZTS in advance so they can have enough rinsed out for us. We'd love to have heaps more but with being an hour of mountain-road driving away from ALSCO, it comes down to having to have another reason to go in [more]

Unwanted drums have plenty of reuse options
Hi Alice, Yes, I think various organisations in the valley could make use of those wastepaper bins, so the contact details would be appreciated. Re the drums from ALSCO-NZTS, they also have 100-litre blue drums available. We have already collected 3 carloads of the green 50 litre drums. One of the local crafters bagged one to store rolls of fabric in, so they have plenty of uses <grin> This same crafter uses the Silk Body bags for packing patchworkers' fat quarters. Regards, Irene.
